POLAR EXPLORATION
CAMERA OBSCURA and a LUXURY HIGH-END FINISH
Unlike building for stage or screen, the Rolex green room requires the most high-end finished carpentry possible. In addition to being highly polished, this build had to be installed quickly and efficiently back-stage at the Oscars, in a very high traffic area. Our team decided to break the design into modular units, using the vertical gold details in the design as breaks. This allowed for greater mobility for a clean, fast install, and a way to house the camera obscura or pepper’s ghost illusion for the room’s windows.
EVOLUTION OF TREATMENT AND MATERIALS
CAMERA OBSCURA
The arctic landscape seen through the windows of the 2020 Rolex Oscars Green Room is actually a reflection of a model landscape housed vertically inside the wall units. Our team fabricated these miniature foam sculptures in large panels to minimize visible seams in the landscape. Their image is seen in mirrored reflection when looking at the windows inside the room, creating the illusion of a vast dramatic landscape outside.
ROLEX TABLE + CHANDELIER
EVOLUTION OF TREATMENT AND MATERIALS
The Rolex display table combined the best of all areas in our shop. Collaborative problem solving, precise clean metal work, elements cut by CNC, testing many finishes to find the right gold dial details, all suspended and floating under a heavy glass face. This build shows the true craftsmanship of our team, and it was a labor of love. Like points on a compass, the hour markers on the watch align perfectly with those on the face of the table and the custom chandelier and light bars above.
